TMB42 Spotlight: Sunday Arches

Sunday Arches are our focus in this month’s Spotlight, and you’re going to love them!

It’s an interesting tale how the band formed. Having been friends since school in Colchester and playing music together through their teenage years, the four band members met up under a South London railway arch a decade later (presumably on a Sunday) and set about writing and producing new music!

The start of 2018 saw them release their second EP Feels Like Home which is just honestly superb and will get you hooked from the first listen. Each song is great in it’s own right, Holding A Flame is an exuberant thrasher of a track whereas Watch The Thinker is a track that builds up gently in to an awesome guitar solo.

The title track Feels Like Home was played twice on BBC 6 Music in mid-February, the band cite this as a notable moment for themselves, as well as playing a show at the O2 Academy2 Islington in 2017.

It’s hard to pin-point what the main influences are for the band, sometimes they dig into really gritty rock which is seen in their latest EP, but also tend to go for a more indie-rock  sound like in We Never Were. Frontman Sam Juner said “Our focus is largely on melody and energy… we are into a broad spectrum of music”

Their first EP Extended Play sees the band in a different light, combining rock elements seen in their recent music with more melodic tones added in to give tracks like Gentlewomen and Crocodile that extra bit of brilliance.

So what next for the band? Well, they’re currently working on more new music and are looking for summer shows to play. (Any promoters out there, book these lads!)

After asking him where you see the band in the next few years, Juner had this to say to us:

“We’ve been active now for about a year, played some great shows and released 2 EP’s.  It’s gathering momentum, moving in the direction we want it to and it’s so much fun.
We want to push the songs out there as much as possible, record more and more ambitious material and stay active in the live scene.  As long as we’re enjoying what we’re doing and people are liking the songs, we’re happy.”

TMB42 Spotlight: ALL WE KNOW

Our Spotlight this week shines on one of the newest bands to hit the Bury St Edmunds music scene in the past year: thrash metal trio ALL WE KNOW.

The band started with founding members Joel Richardson (guitar) and Elliott Morse (bass and vocals) and some friends, wanting to play vastly heavier and technical music than they were before in their previous projects.

ALL WE KNOW released debut track Deprivation in mid-2017, ahead of Charlie Sturgeon (drummer) joining the band. This came after months of rotated line-ups, though now they had finally settled on their ‘sound’.

The trio made their live music debut at one of BSE’s acclaimed Washing Machine nights at The Hunter Club in November alongside local metal-rock legends Janet Street Slaughter. A real test for the band, but they proved on the night they are definitely on course to be a great addition to the local scene.

Tonight, we premiere two BRAND NEW tracks from ALL WE KNOW, Hear Me Out and Fractured. You can listen to them on SoundCloud below:

The first track Hear Me Out starts with a mega guitar riff and absolutely thrashing drumming, roundly complimented by Morse’s harsh roars. It’s a hardcore three-minute thrill ride, as is second track Fractured. If you’re a fan of Architects and Code Orange, you’ll love these two tracks!

The band cite their musical influences from the likes of Architects, Turnstile and Behemoth, which really shines through in their music.

2018 sees the trio want to play more gigs and eventually record their debut EP, and both will most definitely be achieved.

ALL WE KNOW are in Heat 4 of BurySOUND this year against the likes of Cambridgeshire’s shoegaze outfit Lemondaze and alt-rockers Maverick! Heat 4 takes place on Friday 16th February at BSE’s The Hunter Club. Tickets are £5, 6pm doors.

TMB42 Spotlight: THE CATCH

Our second The Music Blog 42 Spotlight is on Suffolk’s own THE CATCH!

Rock band THE CATCH, from the renowned music scene in Bury St Edmunds, have already become established names in not only their own scene but around East Anglia.

Having recently played at the Cambridge Junction (read our review here), they’ve played at a plethora of other big venues like the home of BSE music The Hunter Club, and the Cambridge Corn Exchange. Playing at venues like these shows the trio’s indescribable talents.

The band consists of lead singer Adam Levey, guitarist Eddie Allen and bassist Nyan Horne.

Having formed in 2015, the trio released debut single Vain Tongue, a single that spent an incredible 13 weeks in the Cambridge 105 Unsigned Chart. From then on, they were destined to be big names in the local music scene, releasing other great tracks like the mind-blowing Collared, which in our eyes, is one of their best pieces of work.

In August last year, they released their second EP 03, starting with the thrashing sounds of Vexed, groove-rock of Artist and finishing with the riff-laden Effort.

The band’s influences range from the likes of Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro to Sheffield’s Bring Me The Horizon, and it’s clear through their music with their mega choruses and pounding riffs.

These lads have entered into BurySOUND this year, competing against some other big names on the scene like indie-pop outfit Deep City and psychedelic foursome KYANOS.

Pop along and see their heat on Friday 23rd February at 6pm at The Hunter Club, BSE! Tickets only £5.

New music is on its way from the trio. A new single called Tie Dye is expected for release in February, and we can’t wait! THE CATCH are definitely set for the big time.
