Track Review: The Glitter Shop – Sleep

Bury St Edmunds Rock City’s The Glitter Shop are back with another brilliant grunge-pop banger Sleep.

Following on from the release of 2017’s ear worm of a track Fizz and the beautiful Alive, the trio are back with a bang with the sweet and dreamy Sleep.

The track sees the band take inspiration from the likes of The XX and Turnover in creating a cinematic, feel-good track, combining the melodic guitar riffs, from guitarist Barny Cutter, with fuzzy synths coupled with the great harmonies throughout the track from bassist Harry Dale and keyboardist Ruby Smith.

The whole composition of the track is put together brilliantly, the track has a great tempo throughout with the instrumentals really complimenting the soft and delicate vocals.

A fan favourite already from their glorious live sets, Sleep is a welcome addition to their ever-growing discography.

The band have various live dates coming up and you seriously don’t want to miss them, especially their gig with indie outfit Thyla and the Bury Fringe All-Dayer (all dates on their social media).

Sleep is a brilliant track and it deserves thousands of listens. We absolutely love it, and from what I’ve heard, there’s still a lot more to come from the lovely trio.

NOW LISTEN TO: Alive – the stunning b-side to their debut track Fizz.

THE GLITTER SHOP play the Vinyl Hunter Blast-Off tomorrow afternoon with SUN SCREAM, BLUE MEAN EYES and more. From 12-6pm and it’s absolutely FREE!

The Glitter Shop: Fizz/Alive track review

Bury St Edmunds has a new band in town, the awesome three-piece grunge pop The Glitter Shop. The band release their debut tracks tomorrow (Friday 17th) and you definitely will not be disappointed…

Fizz, the lead track from their two-track release, is a slow-building pop masterpiece. With it’s 80’s new-wave like intro weaving in with lead vocallist Harry Dale’s enchanting vocals, the opening to this track is one of the best we’ve heard all year. The chorus is equally as great, with its uplifitng instrumentals, intricate vocal harmonies and memorable lyrics, this song has all the elements of a classic indie pop track. If you love bands like Crystal Fighters and Blaenavon, then you’ll love The Glitter Shop.

The follow-up track Alive is a haunting indie-folk track, with beautifully constructed guitar melodies from guitarist Barny Cutter ghosting throughout the dulcet tones from vocalist/keyboardist Ruby SmithThis track is so refreshing to hear and is a world away from Fizz, though both tracks combine perfectly to show the band can branch out in to different genres.

2018 is without a doubt going to be the year of The Glitter Shop. With their two debut tracks out tomorrow and their The Hunter Club debut gig on 20th January, they will soon become one of the most-loved bands in Bury St Edmunds. Watch out as they’re going to take the BSE music scene by storm!

Track Review: Gaffa Tape Sandy – Beehive

What a year Gaffa Tape Sandy have had.

The golden trio of Kim, Catherine and Robin have played on multiple stages across East Anglia, and were selected to play on the renowned BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury Festival which was without a doubt one of the best sets of the weekend. Not forgetting the release of their hit-laden EP Spring Killing, featuring the absolutely huge Water Bottle and Pink Neck/Train Wreck.

Off the back of this, the band went into the studio to record their most recognisable track from their live sets, Beehive.

The song, released with help from Antigen Records, is a classic Gaffa Tape Sandy track packed with a memorable riff and an incredibly entertaining chorus. This song is incredible and is without a doubt the band’s best song yet.

The garage rockers from Bury St Edmunds are on to a winner with this pulsating track which is full throttle from the start to finish. And when they perform Beehive, they really turn it up a notch.

BSE’s best band? You bet.

Catch Gaffa Tape Sandy at their upcoming tour dates:
October 26th – The Big Moon, Cambridge
